Underrated Products: Lush Shampoo Bars

Whenever I can I try to introduce natural beauty products into my routine with "good for you" ingredients and minimal use of harsh synthetic chemicals. Lush boasts being natural and using the freshest ingredients. While this is true, when they use natural oils and fresh fruits and such in their masks, but they are still culprits of using SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) in their shampoo and body wash.

In the last couple of years SLS has been named the evil industrial strength detergent in our cleansers that we should banish from our beauty routine. It strips your hair of natural oils and could over dry your skin.  I've used shampoos without SLS in the past and have noticed that, even though they get the job done, after a while they leave a heavy buildup of product in my hair causing it to be limp and flat. I am still unsure of how exactly I feel about SLS.

This is where the Lush Shampoo Bar comes in. One of those products that I hate that I love. I've been constantly told that SLS is evil and to try to stray as far as I can from it. Yet when I was gifted the Lush Squeaky Green Bar I was intrigued by a solid shampoo bar. I was also amazed by the claim that it lasts for up to 80 washes or 3 regular shampoo bottles. Other than the SLS I loved the list of invigorating and nourishing ingredients such as natural oils, ones you don't find in shampoo you can purchase at your local drugstore. I felt like that would balance out the synthetic ones. The bar itself is extremely convenient to store in its tin case, making it a perfect travel companion. It lathers in seconds and cleans hair effortlessly, I only use it once a week in fear of drying out my hair too much.

I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh my hair felt afterwards. It didn't leave it weighed down or greasy... but made it feel like hair that nature intended for me to have. There was no crazy volume instead I felt like I just had a nice detox from all the products I use throughout the week. I noticed that it tremendously helped my itchy scalp in the cold winter months. It smells very earthy and is a nice invigorating and energizing scent, you immediately smell the rosemary, tea tree, and mint. My only complaint is that my Squeaky Green bar had little pieces of twigs in it that got lost within my hair until someone noticed it and awkwardly pointed it out to me..they probably thought I was crazy! You can see the pieces of leaves on my hand, after just 1 swipe with the bar. I'll definitely keep a shampoo bar in my haircare routine for a natural alternative when things get too crazy. I know Lush has a variety of other Shampoo bars without the foliage and such, I will surely have to try those out.

Have you tried the Lush shampoo bars before?
